So I've had this kitchen set over a year now that I scored at the thrift store for $8. It was in rough condition but I knew it was something that could be fixed. And now I finally did it! I love the end result. And the total spent on it was only $12 which was for the beautiful wrapping paper I bought from Rifle Paper Co. All other materials I had from previous projects.
Here's a list of what I used
Krylon glitter blast
Krylon Gold Metallic Spray paint
Kilz primer/sealer/stainblocker
Glidden paint in color Salmon
Modge Podge
Foam brush
Paint roller
Elmers Foam Board
Step 1: Cleaned it all up and removed the white doors and handles.
Step 2: To avoid sanding the whole thing I gave it two coats of Kilz primer. It did have some water damage that I fixed by sanding it.
Step 3: Apply desired paint with foam roller and small brush for small areas. I gave it two coats
Step 4: Final step is to seal it. I used polycrylic after 24 hours of applying paint.
Handles/Sink and Stove
These were spray painted with metallic gold paint and then sprayed with glitter blast. After completely drying I also sealed it with polycrylic.
Backsplash
I wanted to work with what I had, so I used foam board for the back. Which initially I was going to buy some plywood but since that piece is towards the wall I figured it would be ok with the foam board (fingers crossed) I used these beautiful wrapping sheets from Rifle Paper Co
This was an easy proccess, Just apply with mod podge (check this tutorial if first time using it) I nailed it to the back so it's nice and sturdy.
And that's it.

Beautiful! The kitchen on the ikea website has a backing behind the microwave and upper shelves. Did you just not use that part? and use the foam board for the whole back side?
ReplyDeleteThank you, I got this at a thrift store so it might of not come with the back part. And yes, foam, on the back side :)
DeleteIs it weird that I want to use this as inspiration for my real kitchen? Cuz this is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThat would be awesome!! :)
DeleteAliW, it's totally not weird. I feel the same way.

DeleteI love it! You have inspired me to start this project for my daughter. I have a question...your list of material says Krylon gold metallic spray paint but your picture shows a BRASS can. Which one did you use? I do want the same finish as yours :) thanks!
ReplyDeleteMetallic brass is what I used :)
Deletehello, how much wrapping paper did you use, want to order online but need to know that, one roll of rifle paper?

ReplyDeleteI just bought one pack, it comes with three sheets and that was enough :)
DeleteHi! Love this. About to start ours. Did you paint the white parts as well? Or just clean the crayon off?
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteI just scrubbed it off :)
I love this!! For the back piece that your used modpodge, did you just leave the microwave space white?
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful. Well done! I love the colors and pattern. So sweet. - Stephaney @ meflyingfree.com
ReplyDeleteHi there? Could you tell me what size piece foam board you've used? Haven't opened the box yet as I'm gathering materials before making a big mess! Thanks x
