anchors and honey handmade

Over the last few weeks I've been spending lots of hours sewing little dresses and skirts for Sophie and in the process I've decided to open a little handmade shop to sell some pretty little things.
I made this dress she's wearing from a pillowcase/sheet set I bought some time ago at the thrift store and it turned out so adorable. I recently had a giveaway on my instagram shop (@anchorsandhoneyshop) and soon I'll have one on here too. So keep an eye out for that! ;)
This one is my favorite! I made it for Sophie to wear for her daddys re-enlistment.

blueberry pie

I'm probably the only person in the world who has just baked her first pie from scratch! I seriously can't believe I hadn't done it before. It turned out pretty dang good for being my first pie so i'm excited to bake the next one. Our peach and apple orchard is finally open so the next one will be with yummy freshly picked fruits. I never baked them from scratch because I thought it would be too difficult and it wasn't at all. I had all the ingredients I needed so I gave it a go.
Directions
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F
Mix sugar, cornstarch, salt, and cinnamon, and sprinkle over blueberries.
Line pie dish with one pie crust. Pour berry mixture into the crust, and dot with butter. Cut remaining pastry into 1/2 - 3/4 inch wide strips, and make lattice top. Crimp and flute edges.
Bake pie on lower shelf of oven for about 50 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.

Directions
To make the dough for the pie crust, mix 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon each salt and sugar in a medium-size bowl. Cut 2 sticks chilled unsalted butter into pieces. With a pastry blender, cut in butter, working until mixture resembles coarse meal.
(I used a fork to mix the butter and it worked just fine)
Add 4 tablespoons ice water; work with hands until dough comes together. If dough is still crumbly, add more ice water a tablespoon at a time (up to 4 more tablespoons). Do not overwork.
Divide dough in half, and flatten halves into disks. Wrap disks separately in plastic; refrigerate at least 1 hour.
I then baked the pie at 400 for 40-50 min
let it cool for at least 1-2 hours

a big girl room and sleeping toddler

Up until a few weeks ago miss Sophia had been co-sleeping with my husband and I. It was becoming rather uncomfortable having her sleep with us. She is such a wild sleeper and for some reason likes to sleep like a cat. On top of our pillows snuggled by our heads. lol. With my belly growing each week and the new baby coming in just a few months we just had to get her to sleep in her own crib and room. But it was hell! She cried so much and even managed to get out of her crib.
So I found this super cute toddler bed on craigslist for $25 and started using it right away.
Of course she cried and cried and hated it. We would have to rock her to sleep, put her down and quietly leave the room. The first few days she would wake up at least 2-3 times crying and we would have to rock her back to sleep. But now almost 2 weeks later she's doing so much better and even climbs in her bed when we tell her it's night night time.
It feels so good to have room in our bed!
In the midst of things I totally redecorated her bedroom.
It was previously vintage circus but I wanted it a little more girly and whimsy. I'm not nearly done but so far I think it looks super cute.

yummy mac & cheese

Yes, you probably know how to make mac & cheese but I just had to share my way of making it! It's super easy and oh so delicious. I used to always buy the kraft mac & cheese because it was just so easy to make. Then I realized all the yucky unhealthy ingredients it had and just decided to make it from scratch instead. It's so much yummier and healthier then the boxed one anyway. Of course it doesn't take five minutes to make, but it's so much better.
boil macaroni according to box (meanwhile preheat oven at 350)
drain, put in baking dish, add butter, 2 cups of cheese and salt and pepper to your liking & mix
sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top
cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes

our trip to sesame place

Yesterday we drove to Pennsylvania and took a little trip to Sesame Place. We were able to get free tickets since we're a military family so that saved us a load of money. I was under the impression that it was both a theme park/ water park and of course it was mostly water park so we weren't able to really enjoy it. And it was really super crowded but for free tickets we can't really complain. Sophia had lots of fun, I think she's in love with Elmo now lol. My teenager not so much, she'd rather be at Six Flags screaming her guts out on some crazy roller coaster.
In the end, it was a good day spent with my little family.
