thrifty thursday week 17

Thursday, February 28, 2013

This link party was created to bring together all of you thrifty bloggers! So link up with your blog post showing your recent thrifted finds!

I'm guessing this is some kind of awesome spice holder. But to me, it looks like a ferris wheel. I'm going to fix it up and put it in Sophia's nursery.

Sponsor Spotlight

Thursday, February 28, 2013

Meet my lovely February sponsors. Some old, some new. Stop by and say hello.

Hi I'm Kerry a twenty something mum to my 10 month old daughter Amelia. I blog about anything and everything from pregnancy, parenting and baby advice with a few DIY's thrown in between. Come and follow us on our journey from pregnancy to baby and beyond.

What Jean Likes

I'm Jean... a single mom, photographer and blogger and none of those is my "day job".  What Jean Likes is a place where I share all the things in my life that inspire me whether it's a post about parenting, sharing my latest shots from a photography session or doing a product review, the topics change and range depending on my mood or current life experiences.

Little Foal
Hi, I'm Sunae and I blog over at Little Foal - a place for me to share my love of DIY, craft, cooking and vintage.

Stranger Bird Vintage
Stranger Bird Vintage is a carefully collected shop of vintage women's clothing and accessories to fascinate and delight! Born from a love of learning about the past through material culture and an overstuffed closet, and - true to form as a librarian - named for a reference from one of my favorite books (bonus points if you guess it!)

Primrose Hand Knits
I live in the most beautiful state of Vermont where I garden intensively on a small piece of paradise. I am developing a very small nursery here specialising in hardy woodland perennials and also focusing on Primroses.
My other passion is knitting. A good day must include time to garden & knit! I love the feel of natural fibers and knitting them up into pretty accessories. I mostly knit small items such as scarves, shawls, fingerless gloves & childrens items. This way I don't have to buy large amounts of yarn and can play with different fiber contents and stitches. I wouldn't call myself an expert knitter as I'm always learning new techniques and patterns. I use patterns I find in the many books & magazines I've collected through the years and tweaking them to make them my own, giving credit and sources where I can with my finished items.

do it yourself monday-felt crown

Monday, February 25, 2013

It's crunch time! T-minus 41 days until Sophia's first birthday! I can't believe she's already going to be one. It's bittersweet actually. I wish she could stay little forever. But I'm looking forward to all the growing she's going to do. I can't wait to hear her sing silly songs, go on bike rides with me and her big sister, have lovely picnics under the golden sun, and for her to tell me to kiss her boo boo ;') Oh so bitter sweet.
I've been planning, pinning and making things all for her big day. I finally got her birthday dress in the mail the other day and it's so stinkin cute.
I'll have more details on her birthday within the next few weeks. For now here's an easy tutorial for a felt crown. She's actually going to we using this one for her birthday. I'm just waiting on an order from Etsy until it's completely finished.

Supplies needed
felt (the felt I used was the one that has a paper texture to it)
assorted ribbon
glue gun
template (I used this template here)
STEP 1 trace and cut your pattern
STEP 2 cut and glue the first piece of ribbon
(Sophia's crown will not be going all around her head, so make sure you cut the first piece of ribbon long enough to tie around the whole head.)
STEP 3 cut the other desired ribbon the same width of the crown and glue
(I used 3 different types of ribbon)
and voila

Glasses USA review

Saturday, February 23, 2013

Glasses USA has given me the opportunity to review some glasses they offer on their online store and I'm pretty excited to share it with you. I'm a big procrastinator and I've been needing eyeglasses for some time now. My husband would always see me squinting and would always remind me to get my eyes checked. I finally listened and I went to get my vision checked. I don't have horrible eye sight but I do see things rather blurry and it was starting to bother me. I finally got checked and was able to get prescription glasses through Glasses USA. They arrived pretty quickly and well packaged. One thing I love about their site is that they offer a vintage style glasses, and of course I had to get my hands on a pair.
I went with a pair that was valued at $100 and were only $68.
I've gotten so many compliments on them and I really love the way the look on me. Do you buy glasses online? If you're hesitant about doing so they have pretty cool virtual mirror (find it below) where you can upload a photo of yourself and "try on" different styles of glasses which is pretty neat. Right now they have a pretty awesome sale which is 50% off plus free shipping. And for my readers you can enjoy 10% off with code "Blog10"
I can’t forget to mention that there is a 110% lowest price guarantee and a 100% satisfaction guarantee as well! Also, there is an awesome“refer-a-friend" program that gives you $30 for each first purchase a referred friend makes and you can use the $30 towards your next purchase! Find GlassesUSA on Facebook and Twitter

friday favorites-home fragrance

Friday, February 22, 2013

I used to work and Bath & Body Works and hated it! Why? Because I would spend almost my entire paycheck buying half the store haha. No, I really did love my job. I worked there for 4 years and stopped because we moved. One of my favorite things to buy were the candles. OMG they smell  A M A Z I N G!
I stopped by the other day and did a little shopping, kinda of made me miss working there.
They have some new scents and I'm dying to buy them! Here are a few of my favorites! I've had all except Garden Fiesta.
The picture is so pretty I almost want to buy it for that reason alone.
Another thing i'm currently obsessed with is Scentsy.
My friend introduced me to it and I was hooked!
My all time favorite scents are Luna and Flirtatious they smell so good! The warmers they sell are also so stinkin cute. I currently have the owl and I'm burning Luna in the living room and Flirtatious in my bed room.
What are your favorite candles or scentsy scents?

weekend life

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

For the last couple of weeks I had been super busy preparing for a friends baby shower. Finally Saturday came around and we surprised my her with this sweet Valentine's theme baby shower.
As you can see, I kept it simple and didn't get too crazy with the decorations.

On Sunday my oldest offered to make pancakes for Sophia and I.

Aileen made a special pancake for her baby sister. She's the sweetest.
YAY for tulips! They're my second favorite flowers (my first are rununculus)
